My Dissertation at Staffordshire University consisted in the research of animated or blended normal map textures to enhance the facial expressions of a character. With the help of Unreal Engine's Material Editor and FaceFX I was able to trigger additional normal map textures to blend onto the surface of the model when a particular animation was activated in real time. Each expression could enable different normal maps to be blended in the desired areas.
